“Some people will take the time to actually comment about how displeased they are to be in Hufflepuff after the Sorting Hat put them there on Pottermore. They should really be taking their complaints to J.K. Rowling, the person who created the quiz. That’s right, SHE’s the one all these people should be displeased with, but I’m not displeased, because I know the test doesn’t just throw people into whatever house on Pottermore.
Despite the wide range of questions the test could ask, they all serve a purpose, and their purpose isn’t random or meaningless, and in no way contribute to anyone’s displeasure of getting into a house they didn’t desire.
In fact, if one answers each question based on certain house traits, the test picks up on those traits and matches them with the house they belong to. I’ve tested this myself with all four houses (though my allegiance lies with Hufflepuff and I’ve not participated in gaining points in the other three houses), and with my knowledge of house traits, I have been able to get into each house successfully by answering the questions based on the traits of the house I was trying to get into.
In conclusion, I feel that I’ve proven to myself, if anyone at all, that the test doesn’t dump anyone into a random house, but in fact places someone into the house their traits are most compatible to. The people complaining about not getting the house they wanted obviously don’t have a good knowledge of their favored house’s traits, or else they would’ve, like me (and I’m just a simple, little Hufflepuff), have gotten into the house they wanted EASILY. Period. That’s all there is to it.However, I do know some people who’ve tried to be sorted over again, taking both tests honestly, yet get sorted into two different houses. These people, I believe, share traits that are compatible to the two houses chosen for them, much like Harry Potter was compatible with both Gryffindor AND Slytherin. He had traits from both, yet what was the difference? He had the chance to choose, and that’s something we don’t have on Pottermore. However, I still see nothing wrong with leaving baggage at the door and trying to give an unexpected house a chance. Those complainers are just making it harder on themselves and everyone else. Party poopers.
As well, it only makes it seem like those people are perhaps subconsciously displeased with their own traits if they get ‘sorted wrongly.’ Yeah… sounds like a personal problem. ;)” —Anonymous
